About the Book

Reluctant small-town reporter Joey Stevens never expected to be stuck back in her tiny hometown of Squirrel Key, an island off the coast of nowhere known for clam farming and rampant gossip.

But after orange juice-heiress-slash-movie-star Eva Iversen swoops in to turn a ruined mansion into an art gallery—and the owner of the local newspaper winds up dead—Joey gets sucked into the story.

Following clues that lead her to a bottom-feeding fraudster, a local realtor bookie, and a booby-trapped gauntlet in an abandoned lighthouse, Joey emerges with a mysterious gold Rolex and several truths: her boss’s death wasn’t an accident, and she might have the hots for Eva.

Can Joey navigate dodgy characters, bootlegger tunnels, and a billionaire Jerry Hall look-alike to get the scoop and uncover her own place in the process?

Joey Stevens Gets a Clue is a quirky, queer small-town mystery with humor, heart, and a slow-burn romance set in coastal Florida—book one of the Squirrel Key Mystery series.

About me

Rae Wilson

In my twenties, I answered an ad for a job at a community newspaper in my hometown and, much like Joey Stevens, I stumbled into a career.

I’ve been a community reporter, a managing editor, and a freelance writer and editor in Florida for more than 20 years.

I live in St. Pete with my brilliant engineer wife and our bossy rescue Frenchie.

When the weather is nice, we kayak. When it’s not, we talk about it.
